It’s hard to find a profile like Manu Louis in music….
Belgium born, now Berlin based, he studied composition with legendary composer Fréderic Rzewski, electronic music on the internet, and dancing during his concerts. A Passionate singer, and knob agitator, he also plays the guitar in his own unique punk jazz way…
In his music (fortunately, as is the case today for many young musicians) style doesn’t exist. He mixes things that cross his path, and creates new adventures of provocative and decontextualized juxtapositions. His general blueprint remains the same throughout, but the ingredients he uses vary; from dissident chanson française, genial dilettante, avant-garde composers, new beat, old hits, art-pop & hard bop.
Since 2020, the members of Perperúna, driven together by their common passion for Greek, Balkan and Sephardi oral traditions, focus on the study, reinterpretation and communication of the female polyphonic sound, often with the use of performative elements.
They explore the symbols, languages and dialects, myths and tales, melody and structure of songs that have been accompanying generations of people in the celebration of life and expression of love, in the working-field, in migration, in the time of war, in the mourning of death, in the praising of nature.
Dirty Feetz dance through many genres in a smooth but unpredictable way: one moment punk rock, the next opera, keeping the listener on their toes. Their shows are funny and theatrical, swooping through the unexpected.
One moment the crowd are chasing chickens around a field, the next moment Elon Musk is being sent away in an imaginary spaceship never to return. The lyrics ask profound questions like “Who is the Pigeon?” and declare essential known truths “Stealing cheese in Switzerland is very easy”. As John Cleese from Monty Python states, “take silliness seriously and seriousness sillily", more than just humor, their performances are a sharp social commentary that give the listener a guidebook to take them through the absurdity of modern society.
