The short piece 'Cradle me hard' by Maximo Occhipinti and Moritz Haase exposes the contrasts a circus performer is confronted with day by day. Around their rarely seen prop, an aerial cradle, Max & Moritz give an insight into their life between carrying and lifting heavy weight and flying high as light as a feather. Fueled by their own experiences they give a demonstration of what it’s like to enter the red carpets of show business after a warm-up on some swampy backstage floor, constantly switching between roles may it be to classical music or the pulse of heavy techno beats. Sometimes these worlds clash and you find yourself face down on the crash mat before you get up, fix your make up, go up there and do it all over again.

The two friends, whose performance demands a lot of mutual trust, right timing, taking risks and relying on the other flip through the air whilst telling their story about letting go and being caught. Not taking themselves too seriously they dance and fly to the relentless beat of techno finding unity while trying to be so individual.

In this intimate and poetic contemporary circus duet, a single oversized skirt becomes a third performer on stage a metaphor for a relationship. As the two acrobats move through lifts, balances, and falls, the skirt transforms: at times a shelter, a trap, a playground, a burden, a dance partner. Who wears it she, he, or both — becomes a question of control and surrender, embracing feminine traits and subverting them. As roles shift and boundaries blur, the garment wraps, resists, and releases, echoing the rhythms of a relationship in flux. This piece explores love, gender roles, relationships, and the weight of expectations personal, societal, and shared.
